Why the Bat Flies at Night

from Mythopia · host Konlan Mikpekoah

After a devastating war between sky animals and ground animals, peace was finally declared with the heron announcing to sky dwellers and the hare to ground dwellers. As animals began rebuilding their lives, Mr. Bat was discovered dead—the war's final casualty. When flying animals prepared his funeral, they noticed he had teeth, unlike any other bird. Declaring he couldn't be one of them, they took his body to the ground animals for burial. The ground animals, however, noticed his wings and similarly refused responsibility, arguing no ground animal has wings. Poor Mr. Bat was rejected by both groups—the sky animals because of his teeth and the ground animals because of his wings. This dual rejection explains why bats still fly alone at night, belonging to neither group, caught between two worlds that refused to claim him.https://mythopia.io/story/53/why-the-bat-flies-at-night
