Lord Deben chairs the Climate Change Committee, the independent, statutory body established under the Climate Change Act 2008. The Committee advises the UK and devolved governments on emissions targets and reports to Parliament on progress made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as well as preparations for adapting to the impacts of climate change. As Chairman of the UK Climate Change Committee he brings some unique insights. He was the longest serving Secretary of State for the Environment the UK has ever had (1993-97). His sixteen years of top-level ministerial experience also include Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries & Food, Minister for London, Employment Minister and Paymaster General in HM Treasury. He has consistently championed an identity between environmental concerns and business sense.
