Why the World Feels Broken | Homily for the First Sunday of Lent

from At the Lamb’s High Feast · host Fr. Timothy Eck

Homily for the First Week of Lent on February 22, 2026. Why does the world feel broken? Why do we long for goodness and harmony, yet encounter chaos and disorder at every level of life? Genesis reveals that sin is a fracture of divine order, a rupture that distorts the soul, our relationships, and even creation itself. In the desert, Christ confronts the author of that chaos and shows that only humble obedience to the Word of God can restore what we could never repair on our own.   Mass Readings: First Reading: Genesis 2:7-9; 3:1-7 Psalm: Psalm 51:3-4, 5-6, 12-13, 17 Second Reading: Romans 5:12-19 Alleluia Verse: Matthew 4:4b Gospel: Matthew 4:1-11   Links: Readings Link: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/021526.cfm Site: https://verbumcaro.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@AttheLambsHighFeast
