Why Truth Telling Is Hard — And Necessary
from Silent Screams Loud Strenght · host Samantha Avril-Andreassen, Your Host of Silent Screams Loud Strength
As survivors, we are often taught to shrink our stories.“Don’t make a scene.”“Think about his reputation.”“Don’t ruin the family.”But hiding the truth is what ruins us.It fragments our spirit. It keeps the trauma alive in our bodies.Telling the truth — even just to yourself — is how we begin the process of integration. We stop living split between what happened and what we pretend happened.Truth telling is messy. It can cost relationships. It may trigger shame. But it also builds clarity, peace, and self-respect.When we speak truthfully — in court, in a journal, in conversation, on platforms — we are not just healing ourselves. We are challenging systems that protect abusers. We are breaking cycles for our children. We are lighting torches for other survivors in the dark.Your truth has ripple effects you may never see — but that doesn’t make them any less real.Speak. Not because it’s easy. But because it’s liberating.Today’s reflection is bold. Take a deep breath.Ask yourself:What part of my story have I been softening for others?Where have I been staying silent to make someone else comfortable? Now write a page with the heading:“The truth I’ve been afraid to say is…”Let it pour out. This is not about performance. It’s about release.“My truth is not too much.My truth is sacred.I have the right to speak. The power of truth lives in me.”Let it resonate in your chest. Breathe. Say it again.
