They say love rules with hand unseen, A whisper soft, a force supreme. One evening late, ‘neath candle’s glow, I found a book from long ago. Its pages spoke of fate and chance, Of hearts that burn and souls that dance. I read until the night grew thin, And dreams of love came rushing in. Like Scipio once, I saw a place— A garden filled with life and grace. Where birds of every shape and hue Had come to find a love that's true. On Valentine’s Day, they gathered there, To seek a mate, a bond to share. There stood Nature, wise and tall, Ruling over them all. Eagles noble, wrens so small, Each would make their rightful call. Then there she stood—so pure, so bright, A queen among them, bathed in light. Three suitors came, both strong and fair, Each swore his love beyond compare. One pledged devotion, deep and true, A love unshaken, firm as dew. One vowed to wait forever long, A love that time could not turn wrong. The last one burned with fire untamed, A love like lightning, fierce and claimed. The birds all called, they cried and fought, Which love was best? What should be sought? Yet Nature spoke with wisdom clear: "Let love decide, let choice be near." The lady blushed, then bowed her head, Her words like music, soft she said: "I choose to wait, to take my time, For love must rise like stars that climb." So the birds took flight in song, And Valentine’s Day moved along. I woke with thoughts still in my mind, Of love, of choice, and fate entwined. For love is patient, love is wise, It lives in hearts, not in the skies.
