Why we pledge allegiance to the King when swearing in MNAs

A constitutional challenge could put Quebec’s rules around the oath of allegiance to the King back in the spotlight, just weeks before the provincial election. Quebec made the oath optional for MNAs in 2022, after several Parti Québécois members refused to swear allegiance to King Charles. But constitutional lawyer Lawrence David says this isn't really about personal loyalty to the King, he argues Quebec may have changed a constitutional rule without following the proper process for amending Canada's Constitution. David has filed a lawsuit asking Quebec Superior Court to strike down that law.
