Why You Can't Heal Binge Eating If You're Afraid Someone Will Find Out If you've been trying to stop binge eating but shame keeps getting in the way, this episode is for you. One of the biggest reasons binge eating stays stuck isn't about food at all. It's about secrecy. When you're terrified someone will find out, you can't be honest with yourself, you can't ask for help, and the cycle just keeps going. In this episode, I'm talking about why shame is one of the most overlooked roadblocks to healing binge eating, and what it actually takes to break free from it. The Vicious Cycle That Keeps You Stuck One of my long-time coaching clients, Carol, said it perfectly: it's a vicious circle that just goes around and around, and you know you can't stop it on your own, or you already would have. If you've been trying to stop binge eating for years, you already know this is true. The shame isn't just a side effect of binge eating in secret. The shame is one of the reasons you can't stop binge eating in the first place. Why You Can't Heal Binge Eating If You're Afraid Someone Will Find Out [Podcast #702] In episode #702 of The JoLynn Braley Show, you'll hear Barb share about how her "I can do everything myself" mindset kept her stuck in the struggle with food and her weight. Here's what Carol said: "Well, anybody that does do this knows it's a circle, it's a vicious circle that just goes around and around and they know they can't stop on their own or they already would. And they know they need help. So what I like about this is you get this help. I like the fact because it is still your life, you still want it to be private. You know, you don't want your neighbor to know or your coworker. So doing it online with you and like all these calls and stuff is perfect because you can, I guess you can just speak freely and not worry about being judged for anything? And then you will learn. So it's like put it all out there and you will get a fix. So it allows you to be very open and honest and feel like you know because you're sitting in your home you're in a safe environment to just let it all out." This Changed Everything for Her Carol also discovered something that changed everything for her. She realized she could get the help she needed without sacrificing her privacy. Working over the phone from her own home, in a safe environment, no waiting rooms, no neighbors, no coworkers, she was finally able to speak freely and put it all out there. And that, she said, is where the healing begins. Because here's the truth: you cannot stop binge eating by hiding from it. You cannot fix this alone in your comfort zone, pretending it's not happening. Information is not transformation. Transformation comes with commitment, accountability, and coaching. So you keep suffering in silence and the cycle continues. * You can't heal what you're still hiding. When you've been keeping your binge eating a secret for years, maybe even from your husband or your kids,
