I'm on a mission to change that by bringing great leadership to every new manager I meet,” reads the introduction to David Hatch's public bio. Leadership has always been a passion for David. After a career spent in a series of small businesses during 15 years in the aerospace industry, the last 6 of which were in a space start-up in the UK, David's learned the secret to successful management is in the ability to apply great leadership. And the secret to great leadership is all about your integrity, putting people before profits, and pretty much just not being an ass. Leaving that career and starting out on his own, today he help new and first-time managers be more effective, engaging, and successful as leaders whilst avoiding the burnout, stress, disinterested staff and other nasty problems that tend to crop up around bad leadership. David cares about this because everyone's had that bad manager experience at least once in their career; bad leadership is everywhere, it seems. But it shouldn't be! And because making the transition from practitioner to manager, from doing the work to leading the work is tough – change is difficult at the best of times – this particular transition can be the most difficult many people will face in their career, but it’s definitely going to be the most difficult SO FAR. It’s also the career stage where you’ll be least likely to get access to leadership development. So that's what is what David is all about, helping new managers be more effective via better leadership skills. He focuses on tech-driven small businesses and start-ups, and is on a mission to spread great leadership as far and wide as he can. Thank you for watching the episode.
