Die MotoGP musste in Silverstone zum ersten Mal seit 1980 einen kompletten Renn-Sonntag streichen. Der erst im Winter verlegte neue Asphalt leitete nicht genügend Wasser ab, sodass die Race Direction die Rennen aller drei Klassen aus Sicherheitsgründen nicht freigeben konnte. Schon am Tag zuvor wusste man von dem Problem, das unter anderem im 4. MotoGP-Training zu einem Massen-Crash geführt hatte, bei dem sich Tito Rabat schwer verletzte.
