Wild Expectations

Childhood Saturday mornings were crammed with expectations repeatedly fulfilled when the first “wild west” adventure burst onto the screen. Then, as the final credits rolled, I raced outdoors, intent on restoring justice. Sadly, my wish to do so, astride my new pony, never materialized. Scriptures affirm countless expectations: surviving a night among lions (Daniel 6:31); following a star to salvation (Matthew 2:9); defeating death (John 3:16). All rendered, what I’d considered outlandish hope, tame in comparison. A far more consequential difference likewise exists. Whenever needed, I was tenderly counseled to rethink my expectations. Conversely, faithful hopes rest upon what, for believers, is the firmest of foundations. Those standing on God’s Word need never fear their expectations exceeding what God has preordained. Wildly excited? Me too.
