As the calendar flips to March 2026, the Big 12 remains the most chaotic and compelling theater in college basketball. This week served as a definitive turning point, separating the title contenders from the middle-of-the-pack programs fighting for postseason positioning. Arizona Asserts Dominance The Arizona Wildcats officially took a stranglehold on the conference this week. Their statement 84–61 victory over No. 14 Kansas at the McKale Center solidified their status as the team to beat. Freshman Brayden Burries continues to look like a future lottery pick, posting a massive 20-point, 12-rebound double-double against the Jayhawks. With a 14–2 conference record, the Wildcats have clinched at least a share of the regular-season title and remain a heavy favorite for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Logjam for Second Behind Arizona, a brutal four-way battle has emerged for the remaining double-byes in the Big 12 Tournament. Texas Tech, Houston, Kansas, and Iowa State are all within striking distance of one another. Texas Tech and Houston have both hovered around 12–4, showcasing elite defensive efficiency. Kansas hit a snag with the loss in Tucson but remains dangerous as sophomore Flory Bidunga anchors one of the nation’s best interiors. Iowa State continues to be a nightmare for opponents at Hilton Coliseum, relying on a balanced scoring attack that has seen five different players lead them in scoring this month. Looking Ahead The focus now shifts to Kansas City for the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament (March 10–14). While the top four seeds appear likely to be Arizona, Texas Tech, Houston, and either Kansas or Iowa State, the "bubble" is where the real drama lies. Teams like UCF, TCU, and West Virginia are essentially playing for their lives this week to ensure they don't slide into the dreaded Tuesday opening round.
