Funny, fab, and the furthest thing from faux, Grammy-winning bassist, Will Lee, took us through his stellar, illustrious and industrious, career… growing up in Texas with musical parents, transformed forever upon seeing The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, who changed, and in part, made, and make his life. From drummer at 12 , giggin’ for $6, trumpet, french horn to bass, landing his first major gig with his dream, Dreams––alongside the Brecker Brothers and Billy Cobham… to his snowballing session sensational career… playing with Bette Midler and her musical director, Barry Manilow, before he made the young girls cry, playing with Carly Simon. Chaka Khan, Barbara Streisand, the late, great, Hiram Bullock, and, alongside Paul Schaffer, from the very first Late Night with David Letterman, to the very last Last Show… and, in time, playing with all four Beatles, whilst co-creating the definitive Beatles band,The Fab Faux. And so much more in between, and continuing. We talked COVID, of course, he’s been there, done there, and is living cautiously with his bride, Sandrine, and mother-in-law, in the south of France. Writing, recording, sharing suppers and game shows, his pandemic life, blessed. Will’s talent, perseverance, warmth, and humility made it like sitting down with an old friend. Right. Chill as smooth jazz, deep as gospel soul, as fun as rock ’n roll, It was, he is, très magnifique!
