The United States plans to introduce new guidelines to accelerate defense technology transfers to partners such as Taiwan, with the aim of streamlining approval and delivery processes. Rupert Hammond-Chambers of the US-Taiwan Business Council stated that immediate defense needs are best met through off-the-shelf purchases, while technology transfers are suitable for longer timelines. Taiwan is expected to allocate its 2026 defense budget toward acquiring technology for the T-Dome air defense system and enhancing asymmetric capabilities, supported by a special defense budget of up to $32.5 billion. Discussions at the U.S.-Taiwan Defense Industry Conference also addressed concerns about gray zone tactics, blockades, and traditional military platforms.
