The Academy Awards has only offered 20 acting awards to Black Actors, which has prompted social media campaigns to give voices to the problem of underrepresentation in Hollywood cinema when it comes to Black Actors and Black Actress which over the years have been over looked from on the behalf of their art and creations for cinema as actors, actresses, Directors and producers. Our voices is speaking out against underrepresentation when it comes to the hard work of becoming headliners for the cinema and then over look due to racism. Black women have fared better in the Best Supporting Actress category. Since Whoopi Goldberg became the second Black woman to win back in 1991, more than 50 years after Hattie McDaniel’s win (the first Academy Award win for any Black actor or any actor of color for that matter.) in 1940, six Black women have won, including Regina King in 2019 for If Beale Street Could Talk. McDaniel is rarely acknowledged as a trailblazer in general discussions of diversity and inclusion. This is a terrible time that we lol been going through the emotional drama of COVID-19 and now the war in Ukraine. We are now trying to get back what some call normal but still facing the problems of the build up anger and hatred from so much of drama that been going on. Will is definitely facing hidden problems that is causing his terrible reaction without thinking about the consequences of his actions.
