Will Wade To LSU Is Unofficially Official, As The LSU Brass Continues To Build An Army For The General | Jason Armstrong On LSU Baseball And Life Without Cooper Moore vs Kentucky

Current Status: While Matt McMahon has not been officially fired, insiders like Jon Rothstein report that LSU is moving toward a parting of ways to bring Wade back from NC State. Key Indicators: The rumors gained significant traction following reports that LSU is hiring Heath Schroyer (who previously worked with Wade at McNeese) as a senior administrator. Context: Wade led LSU from 2017 to 2022 before being fired due to a recruiting scandal. His potential return follows a successful single season at NC State. LSU Football Spring Practice LSU officially began spring practice on March 24, 2026, marking the debut of Lane Kiffin as head coach. The Kiffin Era: Kiffin took over following the midseason firing of Brian Kelly. His focus is returning LSU to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2019. Roster Overhaul: The Tigers have added over 40 transfers to pair with their recruiting class. Key storylines include a freshman standout, Richard Anderson, and position battles across the depth chart. Coach's Outlook: After the first practice, Kiffin cautioned that the program is "a long ways away from production," noting the team finished 7-6 last season. LSU Baseball vs. Kentucky LSU Baseball (the defending 2025 National Champions) is preparing for a pivotal series against Kentucky. Current Struggles: The Tigers have hit a rough patch, dropping recent midweek games due to defensive miscues and a cold offensive streak (averaging just 4.8 runs over the last six games). The Matchup: Host Jason Armstrong of the Inside LSU Baseball podcast has emphasized that the 2026 core needs to find its rhythm before the meat of SEC play. The Kentucky series is seen as a "get hot" opportunity to stabilize the season. Roster Strength: Despite recent losses, LSU features a veteran outfield—Chris Stanfield, Derek Curiel, and Jake Brown—considered among the best in program history.
