The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July and ranked the #4 song of 1967. Friedman described the song, in interviews with Songfacts, as a song about the kind of guy she wanted to be with.  Later on, she realized the song was actually about herself and how she wanted to be. Windy was featured on both Sesame Street and Breaking Bad.
