Wingate Eyes Nagurski Trophy | Maryland Terrapins Football News

Daniel Wingate, Maryland’s rising linebacker phenom, has earned a spot on the prestigious Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List—joining 68 elite defenders across all FBS conferences. After a breakout junior season where he led Maryland with over 100 tackles, tied for seventh nationally in solo stops, and even returned an interception for a touchdown, Wingate is now a top-tier contender for college football’s top defensive honor. His leadership earned him Team MVP and captain status, while his standout performances—including a Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week nod against Wisconsin—cemented his reputation as a game-changing force. With the trophy announcement looming in November and the presentation set for December in Charlotte, Wingate’s senior year could be his crowning moment—and possibly a springboard to the NFL.
