In 1982, he had already been sent to Miami to work alongside Axel Foulder on a mysterious case involving a strange cult suspected of stealing several ritual objects from the South African Art Museum. As Hardtop approaches the entrance of the hotel, he notices a woman standing alone on the observation roof of the Club Nautico, the exclusive club connected to the Venus Hotel. Her name is Winter Morgan. At only twenty-eight years old, she has already built a reputation as a fearless investigative journalist. Her reports have exposed corruption scandals involving powerful figures, and her determination has made her known for never abandoning a story until she uncovers the truth. Later that evening, when Hardtop enters the hotel bar, Winter is already sitting alone at the counter. Their eyes meet. The conversation begins naturally, almost as if they had been meant to meet. The detective and the journalist are quickly drawn to each other. As the night goes on, they leave the bar together and spend the night together. Neither of them knows that their encounter at the Venus Hotel will mark the beginning of a dangerous investigation — one that will change both of their lives forever. The following morning, Winter wakes up early and prepares to leave for work. After having her coffee, something suddenly feels wrong. A strange sensation takes over her. Voices begin to enter her mind, telling her to end this relationship and leave immediately. Why was she here? Why did she feel as if she had not been completely herself? The answer went back to 1981. While investigating “THE CULT” in Brazil, Winter had encountered Diego Santoro, a mysterious spiritual leader at the center of the movement. During her investigation, she was captured and gradually exposed to his influence. Through psychological manipulation, hypnosis, and prolonged conditioning, Valença slowly altered her perception of reality, making her question her own memories, emotions, and judgment. Over time, he transformed her into an instrument for his plans. Her mission was to monitor Hardtop and Foulder’s investigation, discover how far they had progressed, and gather any information about THE CULT. When Diego Santoro learned that Hardtop had returned to Miami to continue the investigation, he sent Winter to follow him. Her identity as an investigative journalist made her the perfect disguise. But since meeting Hardtop, something unexpected had begun to happen. Several moments of darkness had appeared in her mind — brief blackouts where she lost control of her thoughts, as if another presence was guiding her actions. A hidden influence was still working inside her. Unable to understand what was happening, Winter leaves the Venus Hotel without saying goodbye.
