Winter Weather Advisory | New York Weather 6 PM
from The New York Weather Podcast
Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the New York Weather Podcast — it's Tuesday, February 24th. Folks, If you stepped outside today expecting winter to still be running the show, well.. You're not wrong. But it's playing a weird game tonight. We've got this strange in-between thing happening across the state. And I want to walk you through it. Step outside in the city right now and you'll feel the low 30s. Not brutal, not balmy — just that raw, damp kind of cold that cuts through your jacket. Manhattan and the boroughs are hovering around 32, 33 degrees. A light breeze off the Hudson is making it feel a couple degrees colder than that. You'll want a good layer if you're heading out tonight. Heading up the Hudson Valley toward Albany? That's where things get noticeably chillier. You're seeing temps dipping into the mid-20s. And wind chills are pushing closer to the teens. Here's what's interesting — there's a thin glaze of black ice forming on some secondary roads up there. Take it slow if you're driving. And up in the Adirondacks? It's a whole different world. Temperatures are sitting around 15 degrees. And overnight they're dropping into single digits. That's the kind of cold that bites, folks. Lake Placid is bundled up tight tonight. Here's your heads-up for the week ahead. Wednesday brings clouds stacking up across the state. By Thursday, a system's pushing in from the west — and it's looking like a wicked mix of rain for the city and snow for the mountains. We could see three to five inches above 2,000 feet. Syracuse and the Finger Lakes region? You're right in that transition zone, so stay tuned. Friday calms down, but temperatures are taking a nosedive into the weekend. We're talking a **20-degree temperature crash** by Saturday morning. The kind of cold that makes your coffee freeze before you finish it on the porch. Well, almost. One bright spot — sunrise is creeping earlier every day now. We've gained almost 45 minutes of daylight since January. Spring's out there somewhere, even if it's hiding. If you're heading out tonight. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care, New York!
