Winter Weather Advisory | New York Weather Noon

from The New York Weather Podcast

Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. Welcome to the New York Weather Podcast for Wednesday, February 25th. That half inch of fresh snow on your windshield this morning? Just the appetizer. A clipper system is carving through the state right now. And where you live determines what kind of day you're having. Down in the city, you lucked out. A slight chance of snow before 11 A.M., then the clouds break apart. Highs hit 42 degrees with a southwest breeze around 14 miles an hour. Tonight stays comfortable.. 33 degrees. Not bad for late February. Now push north to the Capital Region and the story flips. Snow is likely through 10 A.M. Then it quiets down before round two fires up late afternoon, peaking around 8 P.M. Highs only scratch 37 degrees. Tonight drops to 21. That's a 12 degrees colder night than Manhattan. Western New York gets the roughest deal. Snow showers all day with gusts hitting 40 miles an hour. Thermometer says 36 degrees but step outside this morning and it feels like 11. That wind finds every zipper you forgot to close. Tonight sinks to 19 degrees. Central New York, you're watching up to 2 inches tonight. Oswego and Lewis Counties, pay attention. A Winter Weather Advisory runs through Thursday morning. Four to eight inches total. Highs today reach 40 degrees, but the lake effect machine is cranking. Looking ahead, Thursday calms down. Partly sunny, a chance to catch your breath. Friday brings real sunshine with low 40s. Saturday is the gem.. Highs near 46 in the city. Soak up every degree because a cold front crashes the party Saturday night. Sunday drops back to the 20s and 30s. We're tracking a potential storm system early next week. I'll keep you posted on that one. Quick bright spot. Sunrise at 6:37 A.M., sunset at 5:43 P.M. Almost three extra minutes of daylight every day now. Spring is quietly sneaking closer. Charge your phone before bed tonight. Cold batteries and winter weather advisories don't mix. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
