Wisconsin QB Battle Remains Uncertain | Wisconsin Badgers Football News

Wisconsin’s 2026 football season kicks off with a quarterback battle that’s less about naming a backup and more about letting Deuce Adams and Ryan Hopkins compete daily for the No. 2 spot—no official designation needed. With Colton Joseph as starter, the coaching staff embraces fluidity, leveraging both backups’ mobility to keep the offense consistent regardless of who’s under center. While other QBs like Danny O’Neil and Carter Smith have seen action, the focus remains on Adams and Hopkins, whose reps with the second-team offense are ongoing. Coach Fickell’s hands-off approach—backed by quarterbacks coach Kenny Guiton’s confidence in having enough film to decide later—lets the competition simmer through preseason and into early-season games, prioritizing performance over premature labels.
