Wisdom for the Wise: Do You Remember the Time?
from Bible Study His Taught Ones · host His Taught Ones
What if the way we measure time today is different from the order presented in Creation? In this teaching, we return to Genesis 1:4–5, where the Father separates the light from the darkness, calls the light Day, and calls the darkness Night. We then examine Genesis 1:14, where the heavenly lights are appointed for signs, appointed times, days, and years. We also consider the words of the Son of Man in John 11:9: “Are there not twelve hours in the day?” What did an “hour” mean before the modern standardized system of 60 minutes per hour? Could the twelve hours represent twelve divisions of the actual period of light? Using Honolulu, Hawaii as a practical example, we examine: ☀️ Astronomical dawn ☀️ Sunrise ☀️ Solar noon — the natural midpoint of the solar day 🌅 Sunset 🌌 Astronomical dusk ⏱️ The total light period ⏱️ Twelve equal divisions of that light period ⏱️ The difference between ancient seasonal hours and today's fixed 60-minute hour We also explore how the modern 60-minute hour developed from ancient Mesopotamian base-60 mathematics, while ancient cultures could divide changing periods of daylight into twelve proportional hours. This study asks us to look again at the created order itself—light, darkness, Sun, Moon, appointed times, Day, Night, work, and rest. Scriptures discussed: Genesis 1:4–5, Genesis 1:14, John 11:9, Hebrews 4:10
