With Precision and Pine, Tradesmen and Volunteers Recreate the Past at Two Historic Rhinebeck Properties

In Rhinebeck’s historic Palatine Farmstead, an old frame house on Route 9 that dates to 1724, there are two nearly indistinguishable fireplaces, both with wood mantles painted white. One dates to the 1850s. The other is a 1999 restoration, created after the original was destroyed in a fire. A casual visitor would be hard-pressed to tell the difference.
