Witt Jr. Hits IL Amid MVP Race | Kansas City Royals News

Bobby Witt Jr.’s MVP-caliber season just hit a major snag—placed on the 10-day IL with lower back tightness, a surprising move for the Royals’ top performer and WAR leader. With the team eyeing a trade deadline sell-off, protecting Witt makes sense, but back injuries can be brutal, especially for a shortstop hitting 30+ steals. If he misses time, it could derail his MVP bid and open the door for Alvarez or Caminero. This is his first IL stint ever—despite a history of durability—and the Royals are prioritizing his health over quick returns. Meanwhile, Velazquez gets the call-up, and Kolek heads to 60-day IL.
