Witt Out Again, Royals Struggle On | Kansas City Royals News

Bobby Witt Jr. sits out Sunday’s game with a tight back, a setback that’s raising concerns as the Royals fight to stay alive in the playoff race. Already a standout this season — leading the AL in wins above replacement, hitting homers, driving in runs, and swiping bases — Witt’s health is critical for both this year and next. He’s missed time before, including six games in June with a knee injury, with Maikel Garcia stepping in at shortstop. With no clear return date and Monday’s status uncertain, the Royals are walking a fine line between pushing for wins and protecting their star shortstop.
