我們渴望的耶穌 ("Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus")

Dear Listening Friends,   Happy New Year! We welcome you to our program 愛的凱歌Adore Him, where today we are sharing a hymn called "Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus" written by Charles Wesley. The song's music was composed by Rowland Hugh Prichard. The song talks about how we long for Jesus to deliver us with his eternal salvation from sins and fears and to set us in peace forever.   In some hymnals, such as Seng-si (1964), published by the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT), instead of "Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus," they apply another Charles Wesley's well-known hymn called "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling" as words but with the same music from Rowland Hugh Prichard.   The lyrics of "Love, Divine, All Loves Excelling" describe not only Jesus' pure, perfect, holy, and endless love but also offer a prayer yearning for his help to sanctify his people so that they may be holy and perfect like their God. In verse 4, Charles Wesley depicts, "... let us see Thy great salvation perfectly restored in Thee. Changed from glory into glory, till in heav'n we take our place, till we cast our crowns before Thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise." These lines align with Paul's words to Christians in the Corinthian church, "And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit" (2 Corinthians 3:18).   At the end of this episode, we pray that God blesses all of you to always be in Christ, the center of your heart and life, with his holiness and pure love, and live out the Christ-like life in the new year of 2024.
