His late wife Kathleen Peterson (2/21/53-12/9/01) was the 1st female student accepted at Duke in their school of engineering. A patron of the Arts, an executive at Nortel and by all accounts an awesome cook & hostess. Her life was taken from her when her husband Michael Peterson beat her to death. After spending millions on his defense, participating in a documentary vanity project and pleading his innocence in the press; Peterson took an Alford plea for manslaughter. Kathleen Peterson's sister wisely saw the plea for what it was " Alford-schmalford guilt"! She exclaimed in a blistering impact statement. Despite his guilty plea some still think an owl the culprit.
