Women of Tenochtitlan: Weavers, Priestesses, and Power

While much is said about Aztec warriors and emperors, the women of Tenochtitlan held the empire together. In this episode, we explore the lives of cihuapipiltin (noblewomen) and macehualtin (commoner women)—their roles in weaving, healing, market trading, and even politics. We discuss the temple of the cihuacoatl goddess, the warrior women of legend, and how the Florentine Codex reveals their daily routines. Learn about the tlamatinime (wise women) who advised rulers, the midwives who were revered as warriors, and the property rights that gave married women economic power. We also touch on the devastating impact of the Spanish conquest on these roles. A conversation that brings the women of the Aztec world out of the shadows. #AztecWomen #Tenochtitlan #Cihuapipiltin #Macehualtin #FlorentineCodex #Sahagun #Cihuacoatl #Tlamatinime #AztecWeaving #Midwives #Mesoamerica #Nahuatl #AztecSociety #WomenInHistory #FexingoHistory #History #Podcast #AztecEmpire Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
