Lesson 4 – Sanctifying grace Intro.: As we have seen God gives saving grace, serving grave and today we will see God gives sanctifying grace. The word sanctify means to be set apart for God’s use or for God’s glory. This is what it means to be holy. God is holy because He is completely without sin. We are holy because we belong to God. 1. We are made righteous by God’s grace. 2 Cor.5:21 = our go to verse Our holiness is imputed to us = given = grace. Rom.4:22-25 Our holiness comes from Another Holy source. Luke 11:13b; Gal.5:22; Eph.1:13; 4:30 Our holiness is a reflection of God’s grace. Matt. 5: 16; 1Pet 1:16; Rom. 8:10; 1 Cor. 6:20 2. We live holy only by God’s grace. God gives grace to overcome sin. Rom. 6:14, 22 Grace doesn’t give an excuse to sin, grace keeps us from sin! Ref. Rom.5:20; 1 Thess. 4:7; Rom. 6:22 It is not our character but God’s grace that keeps us from sin. Gal.6:1; Eph. 4: 24 It is not self- righteousness but God’s grace that makes us “successful”. Phil.3:9 It is God’s grace that enables us to be set apart, sanctified, for His glory.
