Frustrated and desperate, he resorts to an unorthodox method: writing a character named Ruby Sparks (played by Zoe Kazan) and detailing her personality, appearance, and even her quirks.   To his astonishment, Ruby inexplicably comes to life the next morning, stepping out of the pages of his manuscript and into his world. Calvin is initially overjoyed, finding himself in a whirlwind romance with his dream woman.
