Word of the Week is Decision

from Act ASAP · host Daniel Kilburn

The Oxford language dictionary defines a decision as a conclusion or resolution reached after consideration or the action or processes of deciding something or resolving a question. We make decisions and decide things every day, all day long. Some of these items revolve around daily maintenance and upkeep. For example, shall I have ice water or tap water, bacon and eggs, bagel and cream cheese, fresh fruit, or a smoothie? What color socks will I put on, will I wear silver or gold jewelry today? Other decisions we make can have life-changing outcomes financial investment, starting a business, or relying on somebody else to do something for us. The decision-making process for protecting our family and loved ones from emergencies and disasters is much more demanding. Our decision-making will generally fall into one or more of these five categories. Who – What – When – Where – Why – How As in any project, before deciding on what will happen, we first must gather information. Then, based on that information, we will follow a sequence of five events that define the decision-making process. 1. Analyze the outcome 2. Analyze the situation and develop your courses of action (COA’s) 3. Analyze your courses of action 4. Compare your courses of action 5. Make a decision Source: Army Techniques Publication (ATP) 5 – 19. Risk Management As noted in previous posts, it is best to have more than one course of action. However, please note that each course of action should be distinct so there would be no confusion between them. Once you have decided on a course of action, it is best not to deviate from it. NEWMORROW SESSIONS - A PodCast Series on the Future of Hospitality Mario C. Bauer, Florian Schneider, Axel Weber & Dr. Tillman Bardt The Newmorrow PodCast is more than a podcast — it's a platform for open dialog on the future of our business, a platform for those building what doesn’t exist yet. Here, we share and embrace our passion for the hospitality industry, but we won’t romanticize the journey. We ask the tough questions, confront uncomfortable truths, and prepare for a future that resists easy answers. We believe that the tougher and wilder times become, the more openly, honestly and humanely people need to talk to each other and act together. We believe, openness, togetherness, and truthfulness should also be cornerstones of a professional community to develop our utopian idea of „open source“. This is a space where visionaries don’t just imagine the future — they wrestle with the paradoxes that shape it: success vs. happiness, data vs. instinct, stability vs. reinvention. Join leaders, entrepreneurs, and thinkers as they share not what made them — but what’s actively shaping them, now and next. Mark Shaffer Philosopher Kings empowers next-gen professionals to think, speak, and act with knowledge, wisdom, and virtue.  Lum and Abner Old Time guoshibing The series was created by co-stars Chester Lauck (who played Columbus "Lum" Edwards) and Norris Goff (Abner Peabody). Lum always pronounced his own name as Ed'erds and was very annoyed if Abner or anyone brought up his full first name. The two characters performed as a double act, with Lum generally playing the straight man to Abner's attempts to break free from Lum's influence. As co-owners of the Jot 'em Down Store in the fictional town of Pine Ridge, Arkansas, the pair are constantly stumbling upon moneymaking ideas only to find themselves fleeced by nemesis Squire Skimp, before finally finding a way to redeem themselves. Lum and Abner played the hillbilly theme with deceptive cleverness. In addition to the title characters, Lauck also played Grandpappy Spears and Cedric Weehunt while Goff played Abner, Squire Skimp, Llewelyn "Mousey" Grey, Dick Huddleston, and most of the other characters.Lum and Abner, like most sitcoms of the era, had a live house band, in
