James 3:1-12 Proper speech. Do we ever get it right? Especially in our relationships. I cannot think of a finer passage that captures the pain that has been expressed from our people when it comes to the way we speak to each other. Often we might think if only I could take it back. The tongue is small yet it controls so much. Yes, we can praise God with it and curse God with it. Yes, we can say we love you and at the same time, we can say incredibly hurtful things. We can come to church, praise our great God and then on the way home criticise our wives or husbands. James says it directly, “This should not be” (v10).
