Words From the Elders: Mrs. Anne Crowder

On Saturday March 30th, Mr. Nugent and I had the opportunity to sit down with Mrs. Anne Crowder. Mrs. Crowder was recently honored during Patterson Library’s Women’s History Month Celebration.She grew up in Lubbock from an early age, and her oral history interview touches on how East Lubbock used to be a haven for black businesses, including her family’s own cafe.Mrs. Crowder also talks about attending Tech when it was still not accepting of black students, and some of the discrimination she experienced in those days.
