Silvia Villacampa is managing director for Liberty Language Services, a language services and interpreter training company. Previously, she was a freelance medical interpreter in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Ms. Villacampa has over 30 years of experience using her bilingual English/Spanish skills at federal health information centers as well as with local, state, national and global health programs. She has a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from the University of Mary Washington and achieved national certification as a Certified Medical Interpreter in 2013. Ms. Villacampa serves as editor of The Beat, an interpreter professional development e-newsletter. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she has experienced firsthand the turbulence to language access services, local communities, and to the work of medical interpreters.
