Work Zone Safety Awareness Week

Rebecca Grover from the Maine Turnpike Authority discussed the upcoming Work Zone Safety Awareness Week to emphasize the importance of safe driving in construction zones. She highlighted that 77% of drivers exceeded the work zone speed limit last summer, with 45% driving over 20 mph above the limit. Distracted driving, including activities like eating and applying makeup, also poses significant risks. Grover noted a rise in work zone crashes in Maine from 2020 to 2025, with 3,000 crashes. The initiative includes a partnership with local schools to educate teens on safe driving. Grover encouraged the public to obey laws, wear orange on April 22, and support the cause.
