Workday Soars, Applied Materials Slumps, Tapestry Slides

Today's biggest winners and losers in the stock market, a look at the notable movers: On this episode of Stock Movers:- Workday (WDAY) shares jumped after a Reuters report that private equity firm Silver Lake is in talks to purchase the software provider. The private equity firm has been in discussions for several months about a takeover of Workday, which makes software for business tasks such as human resources, Reuters reported Thursday citing unidentified people familiar with the talks. There is no guarantee a deal will occur, the newswire said. The shares jumped 26% to $220.50 before they were halted for volatility. Workday has been one of the software companies whose business has been threatened by artificial intelligence startups. The stock had dropped 18% through Wednesday’s close.- Applied Materials (AMAT) reported third-quarter results that beat expectations and gave a fourth-quarter forecast that is above the analyst consensus. However, shares of the semiconductor capital equipment company are down 5.4% in extended trading. The stock has more than doubled this year, as of last close.- Shares of Coach and Kate Spade parent Tapestry (TPR) are down as much as 17%, the most intraday since Aug. 2025, after the handbag and accessories company gave initial fiscal 2027 forecasts for adjusted EPS and revenue which, at the midpoint, are slightly below the consensus estimate.
