Working with Teens in a Crisis Center (ep 13)

Episode 13 Welcome to The Healing Pod! In this episode, we talk with Jessica’s Bonus Daughter, Kaley, who is a patient advocate and admissions coordinator for teenage males at a facility in Florida.  We explored diagnoses we love to hate when people give them (not the clients that have them, but the irresponsible lack of information that lead to the label being placed at times), frustrations with systems that aren’t creating the safety and changes we see needed, and wanting to help the people behind the labels.  Things mentioned include the Baker Act (involuntary psychiatric hold in Florida), and DJJ being the Department of Juvenile Justice, BPD being borderline personality disorder, APD being antisocial personality disorder.  I tried to look up the Antisocial Personality Disorder TikTok Jessica mentioned and could not find the specific one, use TikTok cautiously though.  The Penile Plethysmograph got mentioned at the end and in a deleted segment, it’s a fascinating machine that we use in guiding sex offender treatment recommendations.
