The quarterfinals concluded with a matchup at Kansas City Stadium in the city of Kansas City, Missouri that saw Argentina and Switzerland going to distance. The first goal came in the 10th minute when Argentina’s Alexis Mac Allister would put points on the board giving Argentina a one to nothing lead. After halftime, Switzerland’s Dan Ndoye would score a goal at the 67th minute tying the game at one. A controversial call was made at the 72nd minute when Switzerland’s Breel Embolo was given a yellow card after interference with an Argentine player. This was Embolo’s second yellow card after receiving his first one at the 44th minute. As a result of Embolo receiving two yellow cards, he would be ejected from the game with Switzerland now having ten players on the field. The rest of the game saw both teams trying to make plays resulting in the game going into overtime. In the overtime period, the momentum shifted when Argentina’s Julián Alvarez scored a goal in the 112th minute to give Argentina a two to one lead. In the 121st minute, Argentina’s Lautaro Martinez would score a goal closing the deal as Argentina would win in overtime three to one.
