In the sport of soccer, Argentina and England are two countries that have been highly respected. For decades, both countries have produced legendary players on legendary stages. The rivalry between Argentina and England has been fierce, intense and emotional. Those same feelings carried over into the last semifinal game of the tournament at Atlanta Stadium in the city of Atlanta, Georgia in a game that people will talk about for years to come. The first half saw both teams displaying great defense as no goals were scored with the game tied at zero going into halftime. After halftime, the game would shift significantly when at the 55th minute England’s Anthony Gordon would score a goal giving England a one to nothing lead. England would have the lead, but the fate of the game changed when Argentina lead by the play-making skills and leadership of Lionel Messi would help Argentina find a spark on offense. In the 85th minute, Messi would get an assist as he made a great pass to Enzo Fernández to score a goal for Argentina tying the game at one. Messi was not done as he would work his magic yet again, this time at the 92nd minute he would get another assist making a pass to Lautaro Martínez as he scored a goal on a header giving Argentina the lead and a two to one victory. Argentina will play Spain in the World Cup final on July 19th in East Rutherford, New Jersey with a chance to repeat as World Cup Champions. The last country to repeat as champions was Brazil in 1958 and 1962. As for England, they remain in the tournament as they’ll face France in a third-place match on July 18th in Miami Gardens, Florida.
