Red, white, and blue reigned true at San Francisco Stadium in the city of Santa Clara, California as the United States took on Bosnia and Herzegovina in a match in the knockout stage. Late in the first half, in the 45th minute the United States got on the board with a goal from Folarin Balogun to give the US a one to nothing lead. In the 64th minute of the second half, Balogun and a player from Bosnia and Herzegovina fell to the ground after both were trying to maintain possession of the ball. After a replay review, the official confirmed that Balogun tried to harm another player causing him to receive a red card and to be ejected from the game. The crowd at San Francisco Stadium was in disbelief when the call was made. Later in the second half, Bosnia and Herzegovina received a yellow card after committing a penalty giving the United States a chance to score on a penalty kick. In the 82nd minute of the game, the United States’ Malik Tillman scored on a penalty kick giving the US a two to nothing lead and the victory. The United States will face Belgium in the round of 16 on July 6th in Seattle, Washington. Due to receiving a red card in the game against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Folarin Balogun will not play in the United States’ next game against Belgium.
