Fans at Toronto Stadium in the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada were treated to a classic in the knockout stage between Portugal and Croatia. The first half saw very little action between the two teams, but the second half would provide a backdrop for a classic that will be talked about for a long time. In the 53rd minute of the second half, Croatia got on the board first with a goal scored by Ivan Perišić giving Croatia a one to nothing lead. Later in the second half, Croatia received a yellow card after committing a penalty giving Portugal a chance to score on a penalty kick. In the 68th minute of the game, Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo scored on a penalty kick tying the game at one. The tide would turn for Portugal when Gonçalo Ramos scored a goal at the 94th minute in the game to give Portugal a two to one lead. In the closing minutes of the game, Croatia would score a goal to tie the game at two. However, the goal was taken away from Croatia after a replay review showed a player was offsides. Portugal would hold on to win two to one. Portugal will face Spain in the round of 16 on July 6th in Arlington, Texas.
