Fans at Miami Stadium in the city of Miami, Florida witnessed a classic that will be remembered for a very long time. In the 29th minute of the first half, Argentina got on the board first with a goal scored by Lionel Messi giving Argentina a one to nothing lead. In the 59th minute of the second half, Cape Verde tied the game at one with a goal scored by Deroy Duarte. In the 92nd minute, Argentina took a two to one lead with a goal scored by Lisandro Martinez. In the 103rd minute of the game, Cape Verde struck back with a goal scored by Sidny Lopes Cabral to tie the game at two sending the game into overtime. In the overtime period, Cape Verde gave a valiant effort, but Argentina’s Cristian Romero would score a goal which was later credited as an own goal by Cape Verde’s Diney Borges due to Borges’ hand touching the ball giving Argentina the lead and win three to two. Argentina will face Egypt in the round of 16 in a matchup on July 7th in Atlanta, Georgia.
