World Cup Update July 3rd, 2026

Australia and Egypt squared off in a classic that was decided by penalty kicks in the knockout stage at Dallas Stadium in the city of Arlington, Texas. In the 13th minute of the first half, Egypt scored first with a goal from Emam Ashour giving Egypt a one to nothing lead. In the 55th minute of the second half, an unfortunate incident happened when Egypt’s Mohamed Hany accidentally kicked the ball into his own net crediting him with an own goal helping Australia to tie the game at one. After two grueling overtimes the game would be decided in penalty kicks. Egypt’s Hossam Abdelmaguid sealed the deal scoring the final goal giving Egypt the win in penalty kicks four to two. This victory gives Egypt their first-ever win in a knockout round match. Egypt will face the winner of the Argentina/Cape Verde match in the round of 16 in a matchup on July 7th in Atlanta, Georgia.
