World Cup Update July 5th, 2026

The Fourth of July weekend saw the continuation of the round of 16 with a highly anticipated matchup between Brazil and Norway at New York/New Jersey Stadium in the city of East Rutherford, New Jersey. The first half saw both teams displaying strong defense with the score tied at zero at halftime, but Norway would have a breakthrough. In the 79th minute of the game, Norway’s Erling Haaland would score a goal giving Norway a one to nothing lead. Later, in the 90th minute Norway would take a two to nothing lead with Erling Haaland scoring another goal. In the 100th minute of the game, Brazil would get on the board with Neymar scoring a goal on a penalty kick, but it would be too little too late as Norway would win two to one. Norway will face the winner of the Mexico/England match in the quarterfinals on July 11th in Miami Gardens, Florida. Meanwhile, FIFA has announced that they have suspended the red card that was given to the United States’ Folarin Balogun making Balogun eligible to play in the game between the United States and Belgium. Balogun received a red card in last week’s game against Bosnia and Herzegovina when he and a player from Bosnia and Herzegovina fell to the ground after both were trying to maintain possession of the ball.
