South Africa joined the rest of the World on Sunday in marking World Tourism Day. Celebrated annually on the 27th September,this year's international day of observation was held under the theme of 'Tourism and Rural Development'. It came at a critical moment as the tourism sector looks to drive recovery, including that in rural communities where the sector is a leading employer and economic pillar. Gauteng Tourism Authority led the 2020 edition of World Tourism Day through a series of celebrations highlighting the unique role that tourism plays in providing opportunities outside big cities and preserving cultural and natural heritage.
