EMPIRE OF WEALTH James J Hill – The Great Northern Railway (1838-1916)The only transcontinental railroad built without any governmental assistance, the Great Northern Railway. James J Hill and his partners built a 1,700 mile railroad from St Paul, Minnesota to Seattle, Washington.
