EMPIRE OF WEALTH James J Hill – The Great Northern Railway (1838-1916)The only transcontinental railroad built without any governmental assistance, the Great Northern Railway.  James J Hill and his partners built a 1,700 mile railroad from St Paul, Minnesota to Seattle, Washington.  Hill noted that the key to success was, “work, hard work, intelligent work, and then more work”.  Questions or comments email David@GDTB.
