Welcome to the Tweet Trends podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evette, hey girl. And you are tuned in to Tweet Trends.

It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Hey, and welcome back to the show. Today is World Vegetarian Day. So all of the topics on today's show are going to have something to do with health, being healthy.

Kind of, sort of. Let's get started. This first topic is probably the least relevant to the fact that it's World Vegetarian Day. It deals with Amazon, and no, it's not one of those meal services or anything.

It actually deals with Alexa and Samuel L. Jackson, who is probably one of the most popular plant-based people in Hollywood right now. Yeah, that was my little tongue twister for the day. Popular plant-based people.

Peter Piper picked a pickled peppers. Let me rewind. Go back. Here we go.

So Samuel L. Jackson is lending his voice to Alexa for their new virtual assistant that they're going to be rolling out later on in the year. And the kind of cool weird thing is, you can pick an option between the explicit version or the clean version of Samuel L. Jackson.

So you can have him cussing at you. As your virtual assistant, or he can keep it clean. Case little ears are listening. And this seems pretty cool, pretty interesting.

They're going to have an introductory offer for $0.99. And then after that period, then it'll go for $4.99. And he'll be the first celebrity to lend his voice to Alexa. But I'm sure there'll be others to come.

So keeping the eye out for it, keeping your eye out for it, I don't have a date for when they're going to be planning on dropping it just later on this year. So it's going to be Amazon's virtual assistant for Alexa. So now, getting a little bit more relevant to the topic of being a vegetarian, have you heard of the company Soylent? S-O-Y-L-E-N-T, Soylent?

If not, they're not a new company, but they do have a new flavor of a meal replacement drink out on the market now. It's a dessert-inspired meal replacement, the new Soylent Mint Chocolate Drink. They say it has 36 essential nutrients. So hadn't heard about it.

And I'm really not a big fan of mixing my chocolate with mint. I just feel like that's a no-no. But I was intrigued by the fact that this company is saying that this drink has so many nutrients in it. And as I read about the company, they have a stance on sustainability, where they break it down for you and they tell you that the Earth's population is estimated to reach 9.7 billion by the year 2050, and that by that time, it's going to be an issue having to feed people.

Therefore, they are pro-GMO. And I thought that was really interesting. Like, hm, I think in most things I see on packaging, they're making sure everybody knows, hey, non-GMO over here, non-GMO over there. And this company is like, hey, guys, we're pro-GMOs over here.

So if you're about that life, come on over here to Soylent. But after reading their stance on it, I get it. I understand what they're meaning by it and what they're saying and their reason for it. And they're saying the GMOs are a safe economic option for sustainable food production, and that they cut down on food waste, time spent growing food, and the resources used.

And they tell you more about it and everything. But so I'm interested. They do have a website. I don't get paid by these people.

I'm just hearing about them. If you're into mint and chocolate together, then you may want to try out that dessert-inspired one with the mint chocolate. And if not, they have other flavors too. So I will provide the link so you can check them out and see if you agree or disagree.

How you feel about that whole pro-GMO deal that they got going on. But I mean, go there with an open mind and consider it. And finally, you know, there's always some organization doing some research about something and having us flip back and forth about why we do the things that we do, why we eat, what we eat, and whatever. So I know a lot of my friends that have decided to go vegetarian.

They did it because of all of the research out there that says meat is not good for you. Well, there are numerous health bodies, of course you know. For decades that have said we should limit our intake of red meat because it's high in saturated fat and thought to raise cholesterol levels and cause heart attacks. And most recently, both red and processed meat have been linked with cancer.

However, in the latest review, authors came to a different conclusion because they considered separately the two main kinds of research. And so it's coming from part of this global collaboration for assessing medical research. So it wasn't a group that was anti-meat or pro-meat that came together to come up with this revelation. But what they're saying is basically that they separately reviewed 12 randomized trials and found that there was little or no health benefit for people who cut down on eating the meat.

And I don't know. I'm not sure how I feel about this because everybody's different. So where I may react one way to something, you may react to something in a different way, different meal plans work better for some people and some body types than others. So I don't think that it's crazy to say that for some people, eating meat is just not the move.

That's not what you do. But for other people, eat meat all day long. And they're going to be fine. So take it for what it's worth.

I'll link it. You can read about it. See what you think as well. But one thing that it doesn't say is that you can tear up all the guidelines and just start eating twice as much meat as what you currently eat.

They're not saying go hog while pun intended. But they are saying still, kind of, keep it in moderation. Before I wrap up today's show, I want to send a shout out to, and I'm going to take this look because I don't want to mess it up, Swedish studios, Asante architecture and design, and Longvis and Vannamo architects. These two companies collaborated with some local workers in Tanzania to create a self-sufficient orphanage.

I thought this was really awesome. I actually want them to come and build me a self-sufficient house because this sounded really awesome. And I'm doing a shout out, added in as an extra topic, because honestly, it didn't quite fit in with the world vegetarian day, but neither did my story about Alexa. So I felt I needed to throw this in here.

So having said that, thanks for joining me for Tweets Rends today. Do me a favor, head on over to Twitter and follow me at hei. That's at hei. E-V-E-T-T-E or just look for the hashtag tweet, tweet trends.

Oh gosh. And just one more reminder again that because today is World Vegetarian Day, I got to give you some ways to celebrate. Here's one, look up some vegetarian recipes and maybe try one for dinner today or go to a restaurant and try one of their meatless meals. Or let's see, maybe just do some research on what it actually means to be a vegetarian.

One that I really love, hang on at a farmer's market. They've got some great stuff at the farmer's market, but you've got to go. As far as places that you can make donations, there's one that I found that I found that I found it really cool. It's called Food for Life of New Orleans.

And they operate in New Orleans in rural southeast Mississippi. And what they do is they provide vegetarian meals to seniors, shelters, victims, and volunteers of the region's natural disasters in different groups like that. So I thought that was pretty cool because I never really put that into the fact that if I'm a vegetarian and there's some disaster in my area, and then all of a sudden people come in to support, but they're providing spam sandwiches. And I'm kind of like, oh gosh, I don't even eat meat.

Like, oh, what do I do? Do I start eating meat because I'm hungry or what? But here, this group takes care of that because they provide vegetarian meals. So I thought that was a pretty cool idea.

A couple of other things you can do is if you're just hanging out online, go on Twitter and check out LiveKindco. That's at L-I-V-E-K-I-N-D-L-Y-C-O. Or you can also check out VegNews. That's at V-E-G-N-E-W-S.

You can find some really good information there, find other organizations to follow, and just get educated on what it means to be a vegetarian. All right, guys, thanks for joining me, and I will talk to you again on Thursday.
