Imagine a man who once hunted and persecuted followers of a new faith, only to become its most devoted captive—not in chains of iron, but in a bond of love. Paul, whose name means "little" or "small," chooses to open his most doctrinally rich epistle by identifying himself as a doulos: a slave of Christ Jesus. While the modern world often views slavery as a mark of humiliation, Paul reveals that belonging wholly to the right Master provides a settled focus and divine purpose that the world cannot offer. Since everyone is ultimately a slave to something, this study explores why Paul found his greatest joy and freedom in being bound to Christ.
