First Chronicles 13–15 records David’s efforts to bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem.David’s desire was good. He wanted the symbol of God’s presence placed at the center of the nation. The people agreed, celebrated, played music, and worshiped with great enthusiasm.However, they did not initially follow God’s instructions.The Ark was placed on a new cart instead of being carried by the Levites as God had commanded. When Uzza touched the Ark, he died. Celebration suddenly became sorrow.David later studied what God required. The priests and Levites consecrated themselves, carried the Ark properly, and brought it to Jerusalem with joyful worship.These chapters teach us that sincerity is not enough.
