This week’s photo is of a quirky set-up on little Bruny Island, which is off the coast of Tasmania in Australia. As you drive along Bruny Island Main Road on the south island, you’ll see a few signs saying ‘bread’ to alert you to the ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ ‘bread store’ up ahead – and I say ‘bread store’ in inverted commas. Because this store is nothing but two rusted, retro fridges by the side of a paddock. You pull off the main road onto a dirt road, and when you open the fridge you’ll find fresh sourdough and other baked goods in the fridges, which aren’t turned on of course, given they’re parked under a tree. You can purchase bread via an honesty system- drop your cash in the box or make a transfer to the bank account scratched on brown paper inside the door. The fridges are stocked daily – or sometimes multiple times a day given their popularity - by local baker John Bullock, who has created quite a buzz with his novel idea. These fridges have become a Bruny Island icon, and as you can imagine, are a big hit on Instagram. We Think it is definitely #Worth1000Words
